Alika Technologies launches to cut bird mortality at wind farms
18 July 2024

We are proud to announce Alika Technologies, a company dedicated to mitigating the environmental impact of wind farms with advanced technology.

Bird mortality at wind farms is a growing concern for the renewable-energy industry. Turbines can pose a risk to birds in surrounding areas. Collisions can injure or kill migratory birds, raptors and other vulnerable species — with ethical, conservation, legal and financial implications for operators. Addressing the problem effectively is essential to the long-term environmental sustainability of wind power.

Alika Technologies tackles this with SARCAPE, a collision-risk warning system based on proprietary, high-performance radar. Beyond detecting small birds and even bats, the system is modular and adaptable, delivering optimal coverage in complex topologies and minimising blind spots.

Although the company is new, the story starts in 2021, when ZEPREN Solutions, with researchers from the University of Zaragoza, began developing SARCAPE with private funding from major wind-sector companies. After successful early prototypes, Alika Technologies was created to take the technology to market and accelerate deployment.

We are committed to promoting renewable energy in a sustainable, responsible way. With SARCAPE we are changing how wind farms operate while helping preserve biodiversity. Contact us to learn more.
